P 4310 General Attendance

Regular attendance is essential in providing District students with a high quality of instruction. Eligible certificated staff will have available ten (10) days of leave to be used for sick and/or personal days per school year cumulative to fifty (50) days. Eligible full-time 12-month support employees have available twelve (12) days of sick and/or personal days leave per year cumulative to fifty (50) days. Eligible full-time 9-month support employees have available eight (8) days of leave to be used for sick and/or personal days per school year cumulative to fifty (50) days. Unused leave will be added to the sick/personal leave balance at the end of the year prior to making determination of payment for unused leave.

Persons fulfilling more than one employment position in the district will be awarded benefits on their primary work position only.

Sick/Personal leave payment will be made at a rate of $35 per day (accumulated to a maximum of 50 days) upon retirement providing retirement notification is received prior to April 15. Sick leave payment will be made at the rate of $35 per day (accumulated to a maximum up to 50 days) upon resignation or dismissal providing employee completes their regular term of employment and notification is received by the District prior to April 15. Continuing employees will be paid $35 per day at the end of each year for leave above the sick/personal accumulation allowance described above.

If the Board chooses to release the teacher from his/her contract the teacher will be paid the balance of his/her sick leave if notification was received prior to May 1. Payment for sick leave with notification receipt after May 1 may be determined by Board for illness, accident, or death.

The Board may match the total number of accumulated sick days an employee had at the beginning of the school year in cases of severe illness or injury of the employee. Application of emergency leave will be left to the discretion of the Board. The Board limits the matched sick leave to the specific severe illness. Matched sick leave days will not accumulate.

Leave will not be transferred between employees.

Sick and emergency leave provisions do not apply to summer school teachers.

The superintendent will review and determine excessive absences by employees on a case-by-case basis.
