The Board expects all students to be under assigned adult supervision at all times when they are in school, on school grounds, traveling under school auspices or engaging in school-sponsored activities. Supervision must not be limited to the classroom, but must extend to the halls, playgrounds, lunch rooms, extracurricular activities or any place where students gather on school property during the regular instructional or activities program. Teachers are to be considered on duty during the school day, while in attendance at school-sponsored activities or when rules and policies are being violated. Teachers must not ignore such need under the pretext of not having been assigned a particular supervision.
School personnel assigned specific supervisory duties are expected to act as reasonably prudent adults in providing for the safety and welfare of the students in their charge. In keeping with this expected prudence, no teacher or other staff member will leave his/her assigned group unsupervised except as an arrangement made to take care of an emergency.
