The insurance program for all school personnel who are eligible shall be determined by the annual school budget as first approved by the Board of Education. There may be years in which the amount determined by the Board to be set aside for personnel insurance benefit will not equal the total amount required by the coverage carrier. The employee must pay the difference or elect not to participate in the program. If the employee elects not to take the Board benefit, the Board is not obligated to reimburse the employee an equal amount of the benefit not taken. Election not to participate must be approved by the Board.
The final date for notification of participation in the health benefit by the employee is the date set by the insurance company. Group insurance benefits are made available to full-time personnel, as defined by the District and/or the insurance provider.
Hospitalization
Hospitalization and medical insurance will be furnished to each full-time employee of the District as a fringe benefit. The contract for the insurance will be submitted to competitive bidding at least every three (3) years. Employees wishing to secure coverage for members of their family may do so and the cost of such protection will be a payroll deduction. Employees who wish the deduction prior to taxes must file an authorization form annually with the Superintendent's office.
To qualify for Board-paid health insurance, an employee must be employed a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week.
The District offers the option for retiring employees and dependents to continue the group health insurance program as allowed by law; such participation is at the expense of the retired employee. Retirees must pay premiums in advance by the 10th of each month by cash or check payable to the District.
Cancer Care Plan
A cancer care insurance plan is available to all school employees at the employee's expense. This is a payroll deduction plan for all employees who want this protection.
