P 1460 Community Involvement in Decision Making

The Board believes the schools belong to the people whom it is created to serve. It, therefore, encourages residents of the District to take an active part in school affairs. However, it believes that effective citizen participation cannot always be obtained if citizens participate in decision-making only at the District level. To respond fully to the needs and concerns of community groups, individual schools must work closely with their own school communities.

It is the Board's belief that the individual schools should be a basic unit around which community participation and decision-making should be encouraged.

The Board and staff shall give substantial consideration to the patrons of the District in arriving at Board decisions.

When the Board solicits input from the community, the Superintendent/designee will report back to the patrons, either verbally or in writing, any decision or action taken.
