P 1621 Title I

Parent Involvement

The Title I programs of the Hallsville R-IV Schools are built on the philosophy that the home is the center of a child's life. Without the support of a child's family, the school will not be successful in educating students to their individual potentials. Therefore, it is the intention of the Hallsville R-IV Schools to engage parents in a meaningful and ongoing partnership to promote the high standards for which the school strives.

Responsibility for the successful education of Title I students belongs both to the school and the home. If one component is lacking in its commitment to that success, potential for that success is lessened. The compact between parent and school, therefore, consists of two components:

  1. The school accepts its responsibility to provide high quality curriculum which is developmentally and chronologically appropriate. Children will be educated in a safe environment where they will be encouraged and rewarded for their willingness to participate in the learning process. The school will expect Title I educators to remain current and active in the continuous development of an environment of efficacy and support. Concrete evidence of the school's commitment to the compact will exist in the areas of: annual parent conference, quarterly progress reports to parents, available time for parents to visit classroom or to participate in the school day by volunteering or observing.
  2. The parent/family responsibility for their children's education is no less vital than that of the school. Hence, parents accept the responsibility to encourage daily attendance, to help with and monitor homework assignments or projects, to participate in school activities, and to portray a general positive attitude toward the school.

Inherent to the parent/school compact is the belief by both parents and school that it is through the combined efforts of home and school that children will grow into responsible, caring, and competent lifetime learners.
