P 1740 School Level Advisory Council

The Board believes the concept that parent, teacher and student participation in the affairs of the schools is essential to maintain mutual confidence and respect, and to work together to improve the quality of education. In order to implement this belief, the Board shall annually appoint three (3) school level councils (elementary, middle school and high school) to serve in an advisory capacity to each school.

The tasks of each school level advisory council will be to:

  1. Clarify general ideas and attitudes held by the building level groups in regard to the school.
  2. Evaluate the extent to which the purposes and goals of the schools are being met.
  3. Develop for administrative consideration regulations designed to help implement policies at the school level.
  4. Consider the purposes of courses of study and special services to be provided for students.
  5. Study a specific issue about which an administrative or Board decision must be made, and to present study findings to the administration or Board.

Each school level advisory council will be composed of two (2) parents, two (2) teachers and two (2) students. The building principal will serve as chairperson. The building principal, using such sources as PTSA, CTA, building faculty, student councils, etc., will recommend council members to the Board for appointment. Council members will serve a term of one (1) year, September of one year through August of the following year.

Each council will meet a minimum of four (4) times annually, once each school quarter. Additional meetings may be held at the administration's request or on the recommendation of the majority of each council's members.
