P 2950 Extracurricular Activities

A program of activities should be provided by the school that allows for and encourages supervised participation. The extracurricular program should be designed to appeal to the student interests and provide those activities that appeal to as many students as possible.

Voluntary participation in these activities or events should also provide the opportunity for instructional practice to achieve the following objectives.

Student participation should:

  1. Demonstrate skills taught in the school curriculum.
  2. Develop skills in good sportsmanship.
  3. Provide for guided practice in teamwork, cooperation and leadership.
  4. Provide practice in social skills, communication and organization.
  5. Provide opportunities to develop self-control, enthusiasm and restraint.
  6. Allow for the development of skills beyond those which are required in the curriculum.

These objectives should be achieved without interference to the curriculum or adverse effect to the student's performance in the classroom. Successful classroom performance should be a prerequisite and should be monitored during participation in extracurricular activities.
