P 4310 General Attendance

Regular attendance is essential in providing District students with a high quality of instruction. Contracted and non-contracted twelve-month employees will have available twelve (12) days of sick leave per fiscal year of which three (3) may be used as personal days. All other contracted and non-contracted employees will have available ten (10) days of sick leave per school year of which three (3) may be used as personal days. Employees who have accumulated 25 days of sick leave may use four (4) days as personal leave per year. Unused sick leave may be accumulated to one hundred eighty (180) days.

Employees who meet Missouri Public School Retirement guidelines and are eligible to receive retirement benefits immediately after retiring from the District will be reimbursed for unused sick leave up to one-hundred (100) days. Contracted employees would be reimbursed at current substitute teacher pay per day and non-contracted employees would be reimbursed at fifty percent (50%) of current substitute teacher pay per day.

Tenured teachers leaving the district for reasons other than retirement will be reimbursed for unused sick leave up to one-hundred (100) days if written notice is received by the Superintendent on or before April 1. Reimbursement to be equal to one-half current substitute teacher pay per day.

An employee absent for 6 consecutive workdays will need a certificate of illness from his/her doctor when returning to work. If abuse of the sick leave policy is suspected, the Board and/or Superintendent would retain the right to have the employee examined by a physician of the school's choice, at Board expense.

The Superintendent will review each incident of excessive absence and may consider disciplinary actions up to and including termination.
