Certificated employees who wish to resign should address a letter of resignation to the Superintendent with a copy to the principal. The letter should state reasons and an effective date for the resignation. In most cases, resignations become effective at the end of the school year in which they are submitted.
Early Notification Option-Employees with Contracts
To assist the district in determining educator needs for the upcoming school year, the district will offer the following incentives for those who notify the school of their resignation from the District prior to the dates listed and fulfill the current contract:
$5.00 per working contracted day in addition to the current salary if a written notice of resignation is provided to the North Callaway Central Office by December 1st at 4:00 PM or by the last working day prior to December 1st, if December 1st falls on a holiday or weekend.
OR
$2.50 per working contracted day in addition to the current salary if a written notice of resignation is provided to the North Callaway Central Office by January 8th at 4:00 PM or the last working day prior to January 8th, if January 8th falls on a holiday or weekend.
Early Notification Payment will be provided prior to June 30th.
Resignation Deadlines
Tenured teachers must notify the District of their resignation no later than June 1. Resignations submitted by tenured teachers after the statutory deadline, or by probationary teachers or administrative employees after their contracts are signed and returned, must be approved by the Board. The written resignation should be accompanied by a form of payment for the liquidated damages as outlined below. Only the Board of Education has the authority to release an employee from a contract.
The Board will consider each resignation on an individual basis. Generally, teachers and administrative employees will not be released from a contract unless a suitable replacement is available. However, the Board will give appropriate consideration to situations involving extremely unusual reasons. The Board of Education has the right to pursue all legal options available.
Any certificated staff person requesting a release from a contract shall forfeit the following:
Return of Signed Original Contract (Probationary Teacher or Administrative Employee) or June 2 (Tenured Teacher) – June 30th: five (5%) percent of the contract amount
July 1st – July 31st: ten (10%) percent of the contract amount
After July 31st, including during the course of the contract: twenty (20%) percent of the contract amount
The above fees help to defray the expenses of securing another employee. This regulation may be waived or reduced by the Board of Education.
Non-Certified Employees
Employees without contracts are at-will employees and may resign their position at any time by submitting a written resignation to the Superintendent. The District requests a 10 calendar day notice of resignation to provide the District the opportunity to find a suitable replacement. Resignations of employment without a 10 day notice may be shared with prospective employers.
