Professional Staff
All letters of resignation should be submitted in writing to the Superintendent of Schools. Contracted employees who for any reason intend to retire or resign at the end of the current school year are encouraged to indicate their plans as early as possible. Tenured teachers who wish to resign or retire at the end of the current school year must notify the District of their resignation in writing no later than June 1. Probationary teachers will not be released from their contracts after they are signed and returned, without the consent of the Board of Education.
All resignations to become effective during the school year require a release by the Board. The Board considers serious illness a legitimate reason for resignation. The Board may consider other possible reasons, such as transfer of a spouse’s employment, to be legitimate reasons for resignation. The Board will consider each resignation on an individual basis to make its determination. Typically, a teacher will not be recommended for release from contract unless a suitable replacement is available or likely to be available.
Should the Board approve a resignation earlier than at the end of the school year; the board may assess liquidated damages as a condition of releasing a staff member from contract. The following schedule will apply:
| Resignation by June 1 | $1,000.00 |
| Resignation between June 2 and July 1 | $1,500.00 |
| Resignation between July 2 and the end of school year | $2,500.00 |
