P 0305 School Board Goals

The Board's primary responsibility is to establish those purposes, programs and procedures that will best produce the educational achievement needed by District students. It is charged with accomplishing this while also being responsible for wise management of resources available to the District. The Board must fulfill these responsibilities by functioning primarily as a legislative body to formulate and adopt policy, by selecting an executive officer to implement policy and by evaluating the results. Furthermore, it must carry out its functions openly while seeking the involvement and contributions of the public, students and staff in its decision-making process.

In accordance with these principles, the Board through its mode of operation will seek to achieve the following goals:

  1. To interpret the educational needs and aspirations of the community and to meet them through the formulation of policies which stimulate the student and the learning process.
  2. To manage the school system in accordance with Board policy.
  3. To operate the school system through sound fiscal management based upon the adopted annual budget.
  4. To provide the Superintendent with sufficient and adequate guidelines for implementing Board policies.
  5. To maintain effective communication with the public the Board serves and with the staff and students in order to maintain awareness of attitudes, opinions, desires and ideas.
  6. To conduct Board business openly, soliciting and encouraging broad-based involvement in the Board's decision-making processes by public, students and staff.
