Vacation

As pertaining to this policy, full-time employees shall be defined as hired to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.  Only 12-month employees, hired to work a minimum of 30 hours per week shall be eligible to earn vacation time.  Employees hired to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, but less than 40 hours per week, shall earn vacation on a prorated basis, per their scheduled work hours percentage.  Vacation shall be scheduled in compliance with the Superintendent’s guidelines and is subject to Superintendent approval.

Vacation time shall be accrued per pay period beginning July 1 for each fiscal year per the schedule below, and each employee shall be notified of their accumulated time.  Vacation time shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of 30 days.  Any days over 30 will be forfeited.  However, no employee shall be allowed to take continuous vacation in excess of ten (10) workdays, except with the permission of the Superintendent of Schools.

Upon entering the employ of the School District, each full time twelve (12) month employee will start earning vacation time immediately but will be required to work six (6) months before using any vacation leave.  Upon leaving the employ of the School District, the employee shall be paid for unused vacation time, computed at their current salary rate, provided the employee has fulfilled the terms of their current contract, or has been released from their contract.

Holidays

The Board will annually adopt a calendar that will provide for the following paid holidays for full time twelve (12) month employees.  Full time employees are defined as those hired to work a minimum of 30 hours per week .

  1. Labor Day
  2. Thanksgiving Day
  3. Christmas Day
  4. New Year’s Day
  5. Memorial Day
  6. Independence Day

Staff members will not receive additional compensation for holidays unless they are required to work on such holidays.  Full time custodial staff may receive an additional unpaid day off in conjunction with the designated holidays.  These extra days are at the discretion of the superintendent.  These days cannot be accrued and can only be used immediately before or after the holiday in which students are not in session.
