P 4310 General Attendance

Regular attendance is essential in providing District students with high-quality instruction. Eligible certificated and support staff will have one day available per month, per length of contract, per school year, up to 100 days. Leave days will be earned at the rate of one day per contract month and will be awarded as such. Employees who have at least five full years of experience will be reimbursed $100.00 for each accumulated leave day up to 100 days, upon leaving the District.  Staff members experiencing an employment separation prior to earning the number of used leave days will have the excessive leave days withheld from their final paycheck.

The Puxico Board of Education believes that professional development is very important and supports the efforts to improve instruction; therefore, it is mandatory that all certified staff members attend district professional development workshops. In addition, classified staff must attend professional development workshops that are scheduled for them.

No personal leave will be granted to staff members for days that a professional development workshop has been scheduled. In the event of an emergency that prevents an employee from attending the professional development workshop, documentation verifying why the employee was absent must be presented to the administrator or supervisor upon return to work.

The Puxico Board of Education understands that employees have circumstances beyond their control that may cause them to miss work beyond the number of leave days that have been accumulated. Therefore, the Board of Education will consider requests from employees to ask for leave days to be donated from other district employees.  Moreover, the Board will review the employee’s past attendance record before a determination is made to decide whether or not to allow leave days to be donated.

The policy concerning the above three paragraphs will become effective May 2005.
